Flaked Oats can be a great addition to a wide variety of homebrew recipes, especially stouts and oat ales. Oats will add a silky texture and better head retention to any beer you make. Gives a slightly nutty flavor to beer. Very sticky when mashing, and can lead to a stuck runoff and hazy beer if used in excess. Pre-gelatinized. The gelatinizing process allows the naturally occurring enzymes in barley malt to make the starches readily soluble and digestible. This allows the flakes to be incorporated directly into the mash with other grains. Due to the flakes having a large surface area and being pre-cooked, they hydrate and disintegrate quickly.
